The death anniversary of freedom fighter Dheeran Chinnamalai is celebrated every year on the 18th of Aadi. His death anniversary is being celebrated with great pomp and show in Tirupur and Erode districts.

Dmk South district secretary and corporation's fourth zone president L Padmanabhan had submitted a memorandum to the district collector demanding that a local holiday be declared so that people from all walks of life could celebrate the festival.

Padmanabhan thanked the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for announcing the order and the Tamil Nadu Development and Information Minister M P Saminathan for recommending the order and announced an order declaring a local holiday on the 18th day of Aadi on the 18th day of Dheeran Chinnamalai.
