AIADMK councillors protest against alleged Irregularities in award of garbage dumping tender in Coimbatore

AIADMK corporators staged a protest in front of the council office with banners in their hands alleging irregularities in awarding a Rs 170-crore tender for garbage disposal in Coimbatore corporation.

Coimbatore: AIADMK councillors staged a protest in front of the Coimbatore Corporation office over the irregularities in awarding a tender worth Rs 170 crore for garbage disposal.

The general meeting of coimbatore corporation was held at Victoria Hall under the chairmanship of Mayor Kalpana. Earlier in the day, AIADMK members Prabhakaran, Sharmila Chandrasekhar and Ramesh, who attended the meeting, alleged that Mayor Kalpana had given permission to private parties to handle Rs 170 crore of money without obtaining permission from the corporators.

They also protested in front of the hall with a banner in their hands.

At a meeting held last month, when permission was sought to float a tender for private parties to collect garbage in the Coimbatore Corporation, the resolution was adjourned after all the councillors of the DMK and AIADMK protested that it should not be accepted.

This month again this material comes to the Church. The tender has been awarded to private parties to the tune of Rs 170 crore without obtaining the permission of the meeting. The mayor does not know what power she has. They also alleged that the tender was awarded in a hurry.

We are not talking about it for the sake of politics and i don't know how many crores have changed hands on this issue. There is definitely a need for an inquiry into this. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will soon conduct a raid at the mayor's house in Coimbatore Corporation.

Even before the meeting began, there was a commotion in the assembly premises for some time due to the protest by aiadmk councillors.
