BJP functionary and 5 others arrested for stealing pigs worth Rs 1.2 lakh in Mulanur

Arun Kumar (32), a BJP functionary from Palani area on Dharapuram Road, and his friends Manikandan (24), Rasukutty (25), Ramesh Kutty (25), Vijayakumar (33) and Thavasiappan (29) were arrested by the police for stealing pigs worth around Rs 1.20 in Moolanur area near Dharapuram.



Tirupur: The police have arrested six persons in connection with the theft of pigs worth around Rs 1.20 in Moolanur area near Dharapuram.

Santhosh (20), a resident of Kolinji Kattu Thottam in Mulanur Kannimar Koil near Dharapuram in Tirupur district, was living with his family by rearing pigs.

Two years ago, he had taken a contract for the Kannimar Kovil Pudur Kolinji forest plantation and set up a bar there and reared 50 pigs.

On June 30, he had gone to Kovilpalayam in Pollachi as his wife was a child.

Meanwhile, Santhosh's father locked up the pigs in the bar that evening and when he came back at 6 a.m. the next morning, he found all the 20 pigs missing. I searched the neighborhood but couldn't find it.

Following this, he lodged a complaint with the Mulanur police station about the theft of 20 pigs worth Rs 1.20 lakh. Based on this, mulanur police have registered a case and are investigating.

While examining cctv footage from the area, the police found that six persons were travelling with 20 pigs in the Ashok Leyland Dost.

The investigation, based on the name board of the vehicle and the number of the vehicle, revealed that the theft was carried out under the leadership of Arun Kumar (32), a BJP functionary from Palani area of Old Dharapuram Road.



Following this, the police arrested six accused, including Manikandan (24), Rasukutty (25), Ramesh Kutty (25), Vijayakumar (33) and Thavasiappan (29), who were involved in the theft along with Arun Kumar.



Mulanur police also seized 20 stolen pigs and the dost vehicle used in the smuggling and produced them before the Dharapuram sub-court and sent the culprits to jail.
