A 72-year-old woman from Udumalpet, who was suffering from a type of bone cancer called Chondrosarcoma, underwent a bone transplant at an Ortho Hospital and is walking, doctors said.
Tirupur: A 72-year-old woman underwent a bone transplant near Udumalpet.
The 72-year-old hails from Udumalpet in Tirupur district. The elderly woman was diagnosed with a type of bone cancer called Chondrosarcoma for a few years and was referred for chemotherapy treatment at hospitals in Coimbatore.
When the doctors in Coimbatore advised him to take a call, his relatives consulted orthopaedic surgeon Dr M S Mohanraj at Udumalpet and as per his medical advice, the bone transplant was performed at Mohans Ortho Hospital.
Dr Mohanraj told reporters.
While such difficult surgeries are only possible in big cities like Chennai and Bangalore, a team of doctors from Udumalai Mohans Ortho Hospital, led by Chief Physician Dr M S Mohanraj, successfully carried out the surgery. Currently, the old woman is also taking up walking.
