Tirupur district collector Christuraj launches scheme to sell tomatoes at a lower price through fair price shops in Tirupur

The price of tomatoes has been selling at Rs 130 for more than a week now. At the behest of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, for the convenience of the general public, tomatoes are being sold at Rs 60 per kg through fair price shops in all districts. Tomatoes were sold at Rs 60 per kg in 10 fair price shops under Tirupur Corporation.



Tirupur: Tirupur district collector Christuraj launched a scheme to sell tomatoes at a lower price through fair price shops in tirupur district at a time when tomato prices are rising sharply.



The monsoon has started in Tamil Nadu since the beginning of July this year, the highest in any year. Thus, the price of all vegetables is being sold at double the price without adequate yield of vegetables.

Tirupur District Collector Christuraj inaugurated the sale at the fair price shop at Chikkanna College Road in Tirupur.



Deputy Mayor Balasubramaniam and several other officials were present on the occasion. Tomatoes are sold to 50 people at the rate of 1 kg per person in a shop.



Officials said steps would be taken to increase the number of shops in the coming days.
