Tirupur District OE Mills Strike for Higher Electricity Tariff and better Yarn Prices

The OE Mills in the districts of Tirupur, Karur, Coimbatore and Erode have been functioning from waste cotton discharged from the spinning mills, producing around 1,400 tonnes of color and grey yarn daily. However, the mills have been on an indefinite strike since Wednesday to advocate for their demands.

Coimbatore: The OE Mills, which are generated from waste cotton discharged from spinning mills, are functioning in the districts of Tirupur, Karur, Coimbatore, and Erode. These mills produce around 1,400 tonnes of colour and grey yarn each day.

Meanwhile, they are on indefinite strike from Wednesday to press for their demands, which include a hike in electricity tariffs and payment of a fair price for the yarn produced.

On behalf of the Federation of Recycled Textiles (OE Mill), a meeting of the office bearers of Palladam, Mangalam, Somanur, and nearby areas of Tirupur district was conducted on Wednesday at a private marriage hall in Mangalam.

They stated at the meeting that 400 OE mills in Tamil Nadu have begun a complete production shutdown on Wednesday due to a severe problem. They suggested that the central and state governments should take steps for the hike in the electricity tariff and pay a fair price for the yarn produced.

The strike has currently affected over 1.5 lakh workers across all four districts.

They stated that the protest would continue until the government provided a satisfactory solution.
