Fearing the lone tusker that entered a village in Thiruvalluvar Nagar area near Kanuvai late last night, the public captured a video of the elephant on their mobile phones and posted it on social media. They demanded that the Forest Department take steps to prevent elephants from entering the village.
Coimbatore: Residents in Coimbatore's Kanuvai area in Coimbatore district have demanded that the Forest Department drive out the lone tusker that entered their village late last night.
In Coimbatore district, wild elephants entering villages in Anaikatti, Thadagam, Kanuvai, Mangarai, Pannimadai, Thondamuthur, etc. and damaging farmlands as well as food items stored in houses are a frequent occurence. Due to this, public have been demanding for night patrol by the Forest Department to ensure elephants do not enter the villages.
A lone tusker entered Thiruvalluvar Nagar area near Kanuvai on Thadagam Road late last night and tried to take away the food items kept in front of a house.
But the elephant could not enter since the house was narrow. But utensils placed in front of the house were damaged as well as some of the tiles of the house. Only after neighbours made a loud noise, the elephant moved away from the spot.
On information, Forest Department officials chased the wild elephant back into the forest cover, which was recorded by people on their mobile phones and posted on social media. The video is currently going viral.
People in the area have also demanded that all the damaged street lights be repaired immediately.
