Uma Karky slanders CM - the court permits her to be taken into custody for a day and interrogated

Uma Karky (56), a BJP supporter from Singanallur, was arrested for allegedly spreading defamatory messages about Chief Minister M K Stalin, Karunanidhi, Periyar and other leaders. The court has granted her one-day custody and allowed her to be interrogated.



Coimbatore: Uma Karky, who was arrested for allegedly disseminating derogatory remarks about the Chief Minister and Periyar, wasgranted a one-day custody by court.

Uma Karky (56) is from Singanallur, Coimbatore. A DMK functionary, Harish, filed a complaint with the Coimbatore City Cyber Crime Police, stating that she was a BJP supporter who spread defamatory remarks regarding Chief Minister M K Stalin and other politicians, including Karunanidhi and Periyar.

The cyber crime police registered a case under sections of defamation and misuse of information technology and arrested Karky. She was later produced in court and sent to jail.

The cyber crime police had filed an application at the 4th Magistrate's Court in Coimbatore yesterday for Uma Karky's custody for two days in order to obtain some information from her.

On Thursday, the petition was scheduled for hearing. The judge, who heard the petition, granted a day's custodial interrogation of Uma Karky. Accordingly, the police have remanded Uma Karky in custody for only one day thursday.
