A felicitation ceremony for corrupt officials? - Farmers gathered in front of Tirupur collectorate arrested

The police arrested farmers and social activists who were gathered in front of the Tirupur collectorate to honour people accused of corruption in the mineral resources department.

Tirupur: The police forcibly detained farmers and social activists who had gathered in front of the Tirupur collectorate to hold a felicitation ceremony.

Vallal is the joint director of the Mineral Resources Department of Tirupur district. It is said that he does not attend the review meetings conducted by the Tirupur district administration and the review meetings chaired by the minister.

Vineeth, the former district collector, had ordered his discharge because he refused to follow the district administration's instructions. However, the suspension was invalid and Jayakanthan, the director of the mineral resources department, again appointed Vallal as the joint director of the mineral resources department in Tirupur district.

The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Protection Association had announced that it would hold a felicitation ceremony for the Director of Mineral Resources and the Minister of Mineral Resources in Tirupur district to condemn the act.

Farmers and social activists gathered in front of the district collectorate on Monday to organise a felicitation ceremony and raised slogans congratulating the officials who are leading to corruption.

The police insisted that they should disperse as they had not been given permission to stage a protest in front of the district collectorate.

They continued to raise slogans and were forcibly arrested by the police.
