The overhead tank constructed in 2015-2016 at a cost of Rs 15 lakh during the previous AIADMK regime in Balaji Nagar area next to Coimbatore is found to be of sub-standard condition. The investigation has now begun on the basis of a complaint filed by Race Course Raghunath alleging irregularities in the project.
Coimbatore: An inquiry has been launched into a complaint of irregularities in the construction of an overhead water tank in Coimbatore during the previous AIADMK regime.
Race Course Raghunath has filed a complaint alleging irregularities in the construction of a water distribution development project for the newly amalgamated Kurichi and Kuniyamuthur areas of the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board at an estimated cost of Rs 202.30 crore.

Under this project, an overhead water tank was constructed in Balaji Nagar area of Coimbatore at an estimated cost of Rs 15 lakh during the year 2015-2016. The overhead tank has been constructed for more than 2 years and when it is put into operation, the tank has been waterlogged and it has become unusable due to leakage of water at many places and low quality.

He claimed that there were suspicions that the then Local Bodies Minister S P Velumani was involved in corruption without doing proper work. He submitted a petition at the district SP's office to recommend a proper inquiry.
On the basis of the complaint, the race course summoned Raghunath and called him for questioning when the police received the evidence and asked for additional support.
On this, he stated,

Former minister Velumani is facing a number of corruption charges. It is now alleged that he may have committed corruption through the Water Supply and Drainage Board as well. Action should be taken against him. This is what he said.
