Protect the polluting water bodies..! - Tamil Nadu Farmers Association petition

The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association protested at the Coimbatore Collectorate, calling for the protection of Coimbatore's water sources, notably the polluting Noyyal river.

Coimbatore: Two days ago in Coimbatore, the Noyyal river was flooded with waste foam due to the mixing of industrial chemical waste sludge in the Noyyal river.

Following this, social activists, farmers and the general public have been demanding that the Noyyal river should be protected and industrial effluents should be permanently stopped from entering the river.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association today staged a petition demanding protection from pollution of water bodies, including the Noyyal river.

The farmers, led by Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association president S. Palanisamy, carried the contaminated water in bottles and raised slogans holding placards demanding protection of polluted water bodies.

Later, a petition was submitted to the district collector's office in this regard. It also demanded that proper desilting of bushes in the noyyal river and the tributaries supporting the canals, a clear white paper should be issued on the funds allocated to the water bodies and the projects being done, appropriate action should be taken against those who pollute the water bodies and penal penalties should be imposed and criminal action should be taken against the persons involved.
