Granddaughter and her husband arrested for siphoning of grandmother of Rs 2.10 crore in Coimbatore - Police seize properties

Police have arrested the relatives of Ranganayaki, an elderly woman, who allegedly duped her of Rs 2.10 crore from her bank account near Idikarai in Coimbatore district. The police have seized bonds worth Rs 1 crore and vehicles, including a car, from them and have also frozen the bank account.


Coimbatore: Police have arrested relatives of an elderly woman near Idikarai for duping her of Rs 2.10 crore and attached her properties.

Ramaraj's wife Ranganayaki (70), a native of Idikarai in Coimbatore district, his son Rajesh is doing his own business abroad (Nigeria). He used to send money from abroad to his mother's bank account from time to time.

Ranganayaki's brother Balakrishnan (71), Balakrishnan's daughter Kavipriya (41) and his son-in-law Anandakumar (49) cheated Ranganayaki and received around Rs 8 crore in cash. With that, Anandakumar has invested in his own business.

In this case, he has returned Rs 6 crore out of it. The remaining amount of around Rs 2.10 crore was allegedly siphoned off without returning it. Ranganayaki's son Rajesh, who had returned from abroad, came to know about this and looked at her bank accounts. It was revealed that his daughter and his son-in-law had cheated on his mother Ranganayaki.

He has lodged a complaint with Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Badri Narayanan in this regard. The district crime branch police have registered a case on the orders of the Superintendent of Police to take action on the complaint.

Following the investigation, her younger brother Balakrishnan cheated the woman of the money. His daughter Kavipriya and son-in-law Anandakumar were arrested.

Bonds worth around Rs 1 crore, a four-wheeler-1 worth Rs 10 lakh and Rs 2 lakh in cash were seized from them. Bank accounts worth Rs 1 crore have also been frozen.
