Only 34,000 acres of coconut have been cultivated out of a total cultivated area of 52,000 acres in the Gudimangalam block near Udumalpet. Agriculture officials inspected the site in person as the pest attack has increased.
Tiruppur: Agriculture officials conducted an inspection of coconut cultivation in Gudimangalam area as there has been an increase in the incidence of pest attack.
Of the total cultivated area of 52,000 acres in Gudimangalam block near Udumalpet in Tiruppur district, only about 34,000 acres of coconut has been cultivated.

The survey was conducted by Scientists-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Project Coordinator Ilayaraja, Kalaiyarasan, Gudimangalam Block Assistant Director of Agriculture Vasantha, and Agriculture Officers and Assistant Agriculture Officers.
The team inspected Iluppa Nagaram village in Gudimangalam block to assess the coconut groves. During this field study, they found that coconut rucos curl whitefly, coconut cartilage, rhinoceros beetle attack and micronutrient deficiency were observed. The agricultural scientists also explained to the farmers the ways and means to control them.
