Exhorting the TN Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to pass the Prevention of Honour Killing Act to set a precedent for other states, Tirumavalavan said this would make other states follow suit and safeguard the vulnerable sections in the society.
Coimbatore: VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan has said that a massive protest will be held in Krishnagiri on April 22 to press for legislation to check the prevention of honour Killings in Tamil Nadu.
He said this while speaking to reporters after attending an Anti-Sanatan public meeting in Pollachi.
Thol Thirumavalavan, who participated in the Anti-Sanatan public meeting, while speaking to reporters, said, “It is condemnable that large quantities of mineral resources are being smuggled from Coimbatore district to neighbouring states including Kerala. Just as the struggle for social justice continues from generation to generation, so is the fight for environmental protection. The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi will fight to prevent the exploitation of mineral resources and will be at the forefront of it”.
Further adding he said “ A massive protest will be held in Krishnagiri on January 22 to condemn the incidents of honour killings in Tamil Nadu, and to urge the government to enact a law against gory honour killings. Though the culprits in the Krishnagiri incident have been arrested, the Prevention of Honour Killings Act is required as it would prove to be a definite check for caste-based honour killings happening in the state”.
While commenting on the TN Assembly resolution for Non- Hindu Dalits, he said “The BJP's claim that the resolution seeking to provide concessions to Non-Hindu Dalits who have converted to Islam and Christianity is politically motivated is absurd”.
“This act has been passed in various states of India. The Tamil Nadu government has also passed a resolution in this regard. There is nothing in terms of a vote bank in it. only the BJP is trying to politicize it” Thol Tirumavalavan noted.
“While honour killings are being covered up, a separate law is needed to prevent it. If such a law is enacted, there will be a reduction in such crimes The drawback is that even though there is awareness among the common people, there are no laws to prevent it” he said

Alleging that the BJP chief Annamalai has released a list of assets owned by DMK leaders and not any proof of corruption the VCK leader said Annamalai had done this to be media limelight and so making such false claims.
