EPF Pensioners Welfare Association stage protest, demanding to raise minimum pension amount to Rs.9,000

The pensioners had earlier staged a similar protest before the Parliament in New Delhi.

Coimbatore: The EPF Pensioners Welfare Association on Monday staged a protest in which they rang bells before the BSNL office seeking the attention of the Union Government.

The protest was led by Babu, District Convener in which more than 50 members took part.

A four-point demand was emphasized during the protest including a plea to raise the minimum pension amount to Rs.9000 per month, and to provide a pension hike for the eligible members.

The demands also included facilitating a manual approach instead of online mode and to enable ESI provisions to the beneficiaries.

It was mentioned that the pensioners had earlier staged the same protest before the Parliament in New Delhi.

The protestors on Monday mentioned that another such attention-seeking protest is scheduled to be staged in Chennai on 25th April to bring the issue to the Chief Minister's notice.

Babu said, "All the protesting pensioners are those retired for more than 10 years and their digital literacy is low. Seeking and formulating pension procedures online has made it much more difficult than expected."
