Residents petition City Corporation to construct a damaged sewer, which has become a health hazard

Alleging that no action has been taken on this front the petitioners said 'Earlier a petition was submitted on February 28, but to no avail'

Coimbatore: Aggrieved residents of Kaalingarayan Street, in Ramnagar led by K Rajendran, submitted a petition to set right their grievance.

The residents stated that 150 meters of an open sewer, near which many commercial establishments are functioning including grocery stores, and lodges in their area has become a public health hazard.

While talking to Simplicity, the petitioner said, "As many as 500 residents of that street are being affected by the open drain.

The open drains are an infectious breeding ground for mosquitoes, subsequently, an increase in infections.

The stench of the drainage is overwhelming. In addition, there is always a fear that people might slip into the drainage while commuting to the stores."

Alleging that no action has been taken on this front the petitioners said “Earlier a petition was submitted on February 28 but to no avail”.

The City Corporation Commissioner Prathap, who accepted their petition stated that action will be taken to set right the grievance.

While commenting on this case to Simplicity, Isaac Arthur, Assistant Engineer, CCMC, said, "This issue will be addressed and a solution taken in the next 15 days.

The wall construction has been completed only the slab placements are pending. The tenders for this have been finalized recently for Rs. 5 lakhs”.
