Tirupur: The audio of an official demanding a bribe of ten rupees for every 40 kilogram bag of paddy from laborers at the Alangiyam Government Paddy Procurement Station near Dharapuram in Tirupur district has caused quite a stir.

It is said that this demand has been going on for the past 20 days, despite an agreement having been reached in a negotiation held at the Dharapuram Sir Collector's office to not take bribes from farmers.
Moreover, there was commotion when the officials threatened to not purchase paddy from those who refused to pay the demanded bribe.
This audio has caused much excitement amongst the locals and has led to a situation of distrust between the officials and the laborers at the paddy procurement center.

Around 2000 acres of paddy is cultivated in Alangiyam and its surrounding areas near Dharapuram, while paddy procurement centers have been opened on behalf of the government at about seven places including Dharapuram, Alangiyam, Thalavaipattinam, Kolathupalayam, Chatram and Nanjiampalayam.
