Notorious PDS rice smuggler detained under Goondas Act

According to Civil Supplies CID police, the arrested person has over 13 cases pending against him in various police stations in Coimbatore and Pollachi.


Coimbatore: A PDS rice smuggler Babu (47), a native of Vellalapatti, who was arrested on February 27 for trying to smuggle 1.5 tonnes of ration rice from the city into Kerala was detained under the Goondas Act.

On the orders of Arun, Additional DGP, Civil Supplies CID, the police are taking action against those involved in the smuggling of ration rice into Kerala.

According to Civil Supplies CID police, the arrested person has over 13 cases pending against him in various police stations in Coimbatore and Pollachi.

They recommended it to Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan. Following this, city police commissioner Balakrishnan ordered that Babu be detained under the provisions of the Goondas Act.

Following this, the police handed over a copy of the order for arrest under the Goondas Act to Babu, who was a remand prisoner.
