'I will resign as TN BJP Chief if the poll alliance with AIADMK continues for upcoming 2024 National polls,' says TN BJP Chief K. Annamalai

TN BJP chief Annamalai’s statement has assumed political significance in this politically charged atmosphere.

Chennai: TN BJP Chief K. Annamalai on Saturday said that he would resign from the post of the state president if the poll alliance with AIADMK continues for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Annamalai made this controversial remark while addressing the BJP state functionaries meeting at Chennai.

Even though the AIADMK-BJP alliance continues in Tamil Nadu, there have been frequent frictions between the two parties from time to time. Meanwhile, the tussle between the two parties came to the fore when BJP’s technical wing functionary Nirmal Kumar quit BJP and joined AIADMK.

TN BJP chief Annamalai’s statement has assumed political significance in this politically- charged situation.

Annamalai while addressing the meeting of BJP functionaries in Chennai said “We cannot grow as a party if we continued our alliance with AiADMK in Tamil Nadu. I would rather resign from my post and be a humble worker if the alliance continues”.

Further adding he said “ I am not the national manager of the party, but its state president. I have strategies to make the BJP win in Tamil Nadu. When I am not able to function in my own style, I will resign and remain a basic worker.

He further added “I have sought time to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I will be busy with party work till May 10 as the Karnataka assembly elections are going to be held”.

While Annamali continued with his speech Party leaders Nagarajan and Amarprasad Reddy intervened and objected to his remark.

State vice-president Narayanan Tirupati who also intervened said, "Your speech is not clear. make yourself clear”.

A large number of party functionaries raised slogans in support of Annamalai's remarks. This led to a commotion in the meeting for a while.

Vanathi Srinivasan MLA was also believed to have shared her thoughts with Annamalai by saying “, "Why are you talking about something that should be done at BJPs Central committee, here”.

The meeting was attended by BJP leaders, including BJP MLAs Gandhi and Saraswathi.
