National Butterfly Day: Saving butterflies is vital to save the global environment and humanity’s future

But can you believe that butterflies are unique, and an indicator species of the entire ecosystem?

Coimbatore: Even as March 14 is being observed as “National Butterfly Day”, there have been measures to raise awareness about the need to protect the butterfly species, which have been a vital species protecting the environment.

But can you believe that butterflies are unique and an indicator species of the entire ecosystem?

Butterflies live on all continents of the world, except Antarctica. There are 18,000 butterfly species living in the world. There are 1500 species of butterflies living in India. There are more than 300 species of butterflies in Tamil Nadu. This also includes rare species of butterflies.

Butterflies are beautiful to look at, and their way of life is even more beautiful. Starting with a small egg, becoming a worm in a cocoon and then growing into a butterfly with a coloured wing, every phase of its life is interesting

Butterflies help in pollination and aid in spreading all species of trees and other plants.

It is also considered as farmer's friend as they consume some insects found in crops.

The butterfly habitats will support the sustainability of our global environment. This is because butterflies live only in places where there is Nature’s gift and they are endangered now due to human activity such as modernization.

Decades ago spotting a butterfly nearer our houses was not a big deal, but not any more due to environmental destruction, which is happening at a faster pace.

Protecting this beautiful species given by Mother Nature is vital if, we really care about the sustainability of Mother Earth.
