TN Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announces solatium of Rs 3 lakh for the Ooty student’s family who died after overdosing of nutritional supplements

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced a solatium amount of Rs 3 lakh to the next of kin of the student of Urdu Middle School in Ooty, who died after consuming large quantities of nutritional supplements.

Also, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh each for the three girl students undergoing treatment.

In a shocking incident, as many four students studying class 8 in Municipal Urdu- medium middle school in Ooty fainted in the classroom after allegedly consuming large quantities a nutritional supplementary pills on March 6.

The students were immediately rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.

One of the affected girls, a 13-year-old was referred to Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai for further treatment as she was in critical condition due to liver damage.

The student died of suffocation while she was being transported to Chennai in an ambulance.

The school's Headmaster and a woman teacher have been placed under suspension over the incident.

In a statement, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said, "I express my condolences to the family of the deceased student who died due to excessive consumption of nutritional supplements,".
