The underground subway on Avinashi Road has been closed by Coimbatore Corporation authorities after the subway became a tent for anti-social elements since it was not in public use.
Coimbatore: The underground subway on Avinashi Road was closed by the Coimbatore Corporation authorities since it was not in public use.

A separate walkway has been constructed under the flyover on the Coimbatore-Avinashi Road for the public to move from the roundabout area to Brooke Bond Road.
Over a period of time, anti-social elements have been using the deserted subway for open defecation and for drinking alcohol since the public had not been using it for a long time.
A request was made on behalf of the public to block the unused subway. Work is also underway to set up a park in the area. Due to this, the Corporation authorities have now blocked the subway.
According to Corporation officials, a separate lane was constructed for the public to cross the roundabout area of the flyover tunnel. But it was later closed down as public use was low. They warned that action would be taken against those trespassing on the route.
