Deputy Commissioner Sandeesh said the gun hidden by gangster Sanjay Raja resembled a country-made pistol.
Coimbatore: Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeesh visited the spot where the police and the murder accused exchanged fire near Karattumedu in Saravanampatti.
Later Deputy Commissioner Sandeesh said that the gun hidden by gangster Sanjay Raja resembled a country-made pistol.
Sandheesh further elaborated on the incident to the reporters:

“Sanjay Raja was brought to the area this morning by the Special team in connection with a murder case. During interrogation, Sanjay raja had said that he had used two pistols as murder weapons†he said.
“While a pistol had already been seized in Chennai, the gangster was brought here to seize the second weaponâ€.

“The police brought him to seize the weapon, as he claimed that he had hidden it near Saravanampatti. This pistol is likely a country-made one†Sandheesh noted.

“Sanjay Raja, who picked up the hidden pistol, however, started firing all of a sudden. The sub-inspector opened fire in self-defence and Sanjayraja was hit in the leg by a bullet†the Deputy Commissioner clarified.

“He was rushed to the CMCH in under ten minutes. He is in a good condition now. Fortunately, the police team escaped unhurt in the incident. Sanjay Raja has several cases of robbery booked against him†Sandheesh further noted.
“The murder accused also confided to have purchased the pistols from Bihar and Orissa. We are investigating the matter. There is no gun culture in the city†he said.
“This is anillegal weapon, and the number of bullets loaded in the pistol would be known only after the forensic investigation,†the Deputy Commissioner said.
