Affected parents of school children condemn denial of rights under the Right to Education Act, stage protest in front of the Collectorate

About 28 schoolchildren, who were earlier enrolled at the Little Kingdom Matriculation School at Gandhimanagar, under the provisions of the RTE act were forced to discontinue their studies as their school was closed without any intimation in April 2022.

Coimbatore: Protesting against the denial of rights under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, a group of children and their parents staged a protest at the District Collector's office on Monday.

About 28 schoolchildren, who were earlier enrolled at the Little Kingdom Matriculation School at Gandhimanagar, were forced to discontinue their studies as their school was closed without any intimation in April 2022.

Even though the School management enrolled those 28 children into another private school for which the management is demanding fees, the parents said “demanding fees is against the provisions of RTE”.

Chinnadurai, one of the parents said, "People like us avail the RTE Act since we cannot afford an education at a cost as we struggle much for our survival itself. The very purpose of RTE is defeated, when they force us to pay the fees. Now our children are sitting at home without going to school."

He also claimed that despite many representations to the District collector and all the petitions seeking redressal of our complaints to the Education department fell on deaf ears.

While condemning the apathy of the district administration in solving their problem, the parents said if the district administration remain a mute spectator, they would stage a hunger strike before the Collector’s office.
