Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, V Balakrishnan inaugurated an auto library comprising 500 auto rickshaws in the city, to inculcate the habit of reading in public.

With the participation of Kalaignar Karunanidhi College of Technology in Coimbatore, a library has been set up in 500 autos under the project 'Books on Wheels.'

Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, V Balakrishnan inaugurated the auto library at the inaugural function held at the Singanallur Sugarcane Shop Ground in Coimbatore.

Speaking on the occasion, Police Commissioner, V Balakrishnan said, "I have opened such auto libraries and street corner libraries before. Subsequently, books have been supplied to 500 autos in the city and a library has been set up with kit contributions. It is not only meant for the general public travelling in autos but also for auto drivers to enjoy reading these books in their spare time. Along with auto drivers, the police and traffic police are engaging in various accident prevention efforts.

We have taken this as a new initiative to strengthen this relationship. This initiative will not only reduce anxiety for auto drivers but will also help in increasing the reading habits among the general public.

In Coimbatore city, we are registering FIR in connection with fraud cases. We need to create more awareness about this. If the press, media and friends publish various news related to this to create awareness, it will help in creating awareness among the public.

If someone has been cheated, they can approach the police immediately, and if they do so, a case will be registered immediately and appropriate action will be taken. We are creating awareness among motorists who come on two-wheelers without wearing helmets and youth who are violating traffic rules to teach them to adhere to proper traffic rules," reiterated the Police Commissioner.
