Relocated Makhna elephant flees from the Top slip area, and is camping near Madukkarai

The Makhna which reached Kurumbapalayaml junction was spotted today by early morning around 6 am and it caused damages to the fences of a few houses in this zone.

Coimbatore: The menacing movement of the wild Makhna elephant has been reported from  Madukkarai area after it has traversed some 140 kilometres in the last few days.

Earlier the Makhna elephant was captured from Krishnagiri and relocated to the Topslip forest ranges.

The elephant moved away from Varagaliyar on Monday and crossed Pollachi before reaching Madukkarai today.

The elephant in its long journey for the last couple of days has covered more than 15 villages including residential zones and cultivation zones.

However, no casualties have been reported nor have any damage to agriculture fields occurred so far.

The Makhna which reached Kurumbapalayaml junction was spotted today by early morning around 6 am and it caused damages to the fences of a few houses in this zone.

While speaking about the long journey of the Makhna, Jalaluddin, President of the Nature Conservative Society observed “The Mukhna elephant is in search of its original habitat and has lost its path which has led to the current drift. It has rested around the bushes due to exhaustion due to a prolonged journey over 35 kilometres overnight."

More than 200 persons including forest officials and NGO volunteers are involved in the operation to chase back the Makhna back into the dense forest areas.

Officials are constantly monitoring the movement of Makhna to ensure the safety of the people and the elephant.
