Four arrested for Concert Online ticket sales racket in Ooty, they swindled Rs.10 lakh from unwitting customers

Police have arrested a gang of four youths for allegedly duping people of up to Rs 10 lakh by selling 2,000 tickets online on the pretext of conducting a concert at Ooty. Each ticket was sold for a price of Rs.500.

Nilgiris: A private marriage hall on Ooty Goodshed Road was booked for the wedding by some party.

In the meanwhile fraudsters sold online tickets on the pretext of conducting a concert at Ooty, using the name and dates of the marriage hall on the sly.

The advertisement said that concert will be held in the same private hall on Saturday and Sunday when the marriage is to take place.

When the incident of ticket sales came to the notice of the party who booked the marriage hall, they were shocked and complained to the hall management about it.

However, the hall management clarified that the hall was booked only for the wedding and no one had contacted them about the concert.

Moreover, having ensured that the fraud took place in the name of the hall, they decided to nab the gang.

Following this, they laid a trap and told the fraudsters that 50 tickets were required for the school students to attend the concert and insisted on delivering them directly after getting the phone numbers from their online site.

The staff of the Hall management rounded the culprits up when they arrived at a specific spot to deliver the ticket.

A complaint was also lodged with the Ooty West police station in this regard. A police team led by Inspector Meena Priya conducted an inquiry into the incident.

Siddharth (24), Saravanan Rukesh Babu (35), Jackson (30) and Monish Kumar (20), all residents of Ooty, were involved in the scam and sold about 2,000 tickets online at Rs 500 each.

Following this, the police arrested all four of them. A car and a motorcycle were also seized from them.

The arrested were produced in court and remanded in custody.
