District Congress stage protest condemning ‘crony capitalism’ practised by Modi-led Government

The Coimbatore District Congress Committee staged a protest against the central government for allegedly handing over public investments of the State Bank of India and LIC to Adani and Ambani, thus practising crony capitalism.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Congress Committee staged a protest against the central government for favouring corporate bodies for equity investment, which was held in front of the SBI's main office here today.

Led by District president Karuppusamy, more than 40 Congress workers participated in the protest and raised slogans condemning the Modi-led government.

The protesters also carried placards and raised slogans demanding that LIC’s assets should not be sold to Adani.

While arguing that it was the middle class who had invested their hard-earned money in SBI and LIC, they said “that it should not be given away to corporate entities and bosses like Adani”.

Addressing a press conference later, District president Karuppusamy said that “the scam was being carried out to divert public investments in SBI and LIC into non-performing assets (NPAs) in later years”.

“The Congress party strongly condemns the crony capitalism of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet Ministers to grab public money and give it away to corporate bodies,” he said

While terming the Prime Minister as A1 and Finance minister A2 in the matter, the protesters demanded an explanation from Finance Minister Nirmala Seetharaman, who had been giving only evasive replies in this matter.
