Tree brushes on high tension electric wire in Coimbatore; Auto driver electrocuted to death

A mini-auto driver was electrocuted after a tree brushed a high-tension electric wire near Madukkarai Palathurai in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: Haridas (42) is a resident of Palathurai Perumal Koil Street near Madukkarai in Coimbatore. He was driving a mini-auto rickshaw in the area.

Haridas, who was in his house, seems to have cut off the branches of a tall moringa tree outside the house. At that time, the cut branch broke and fell on a high-tension wire nearby.

Haridas was thrown out and fell unconscious when the electricity flowed through the branch of the tree. Following this, he was rescued by the locals and sent to Coimbatore Government hospital in a 108 ambulance. Doctors who examined him at the hospital said he died on the way.

Madukkarai police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. Meanwhile, high-tension power lines have been running at short altitudes in the area for about 30 years. Residents of the area said the danger was high and now the driver has died due to electrocution.

Therefore, the people of the area have demanded that the high-tension wires passing through the area should be carried through high-rise poles. They also demanded that the district administration should take steps to provide adequate compensation to the family of Haridas, who died due to electrocution.
