Worker killed after being attacked by a lone elephant near Govanur

A worker was killed and one seriously injured after being attacked by a lone tusker near Govanur at the foothills of the Western Ghats in Coimbatore district.


Coimbatore: A worker who was on his way to a hill temple near Govanur was attacked by a lone tusker and he succumbed to his injuries.

Soundararajan, a resident of Periyanaickenpalayam panchayat in Coimbatore district, had gone to a hill temple at the foothills of the Western Ghats near Govanur in Periyanaickenpalayam panchayat at around 7 am.

At that time, a lone tusker came there and attacked Soundararajan. He suffered a fracture in his hand and was admitted to a private hospital in Saibaba Colony in Coimbatore for treatment.

Similarly, Mayilsamy, a native of Thirumalur, had gone to Kovanur area around 5 pm today to pluck leaves for the goats.



A lone tusker attacked Mayilsamy and he died on the spot. After the elephant left, the persons who were present there recovered the body of Mayilsamy and sent it to coimbatore government hospital for post-mortem.

The Periyanaickenpalayam range forest department, which came to know about the incident, is investigating.
