Man stabs friend in drunken brawl

A 38-year-old man was stabbed to death by his close friend in a drunken brawl at Rajendraprasad Street at Seeranaickenpalayam here on Sunday afternoon. Police said that the deceased started verbally abusing his friend, after which the accused stabbed the victim a liquor bottle.

The deceased was identified as A Rafiq, of Seeranaickenpalayam, he was engaged in gold polishing work. He was separated from his wife, as the couple would quarrel often and stayed in a rented room. He befriended Selvaraj, 38, a car driver from Sundapalayam at a Tasmac and they would often consumed liquor at Rafiq's room.

On Sunday afternoon, both of them were drinking alcohol when a quarrel erupted. Rafiq started verbally abusing Selvaraj's mother. In a fit of rage, Selvaraj stabbed Rafiq's neck with a liquor bottle and fled the spot.

The neighbours rushed to the room and took Rafiq to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital where he died due to severe blood loss. The RS Puram police (law&order) registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested Selvaraj who was later remanded to judicial custody.
