Chennai: Tamil Nadu Governor Ravi has issued a clarification on the controversy that erupted over his preference to call Tamil Nadu as Tamilagam

In a statement issued in this regard, he said, on January 4, a function celebrating the month-long Kashi Tamil Sangamam was held at the Raj Bhavan to celebrate the ancient cultural connection of the Tamil people with Kasi in Uttar Pradesh.

A felicitation ceremony was held for the NGO volunteers, who participated in the Kasi event. Clarifying that he used the term Thamizhagam as it was extensively used during the ancient times as the usage of the term Tamil Nadu was not there in the past.

There is no reason to suggest that I intended to change the name of Tamil Nadu” the TN Governor R.N. Ravi said and added “making such assumptions is wrong, and contrary to truth”.
