Kerala Forest department captures PM2 Makhna elephant, sends it to observation camp

The PM2 Makhna elephant, which roamed in the residential areas in the Nilgiris district for the last four years, has been caught in the Wayanad district of Kerala after administering an tranquilizer shot.



The Nilgiris: PM2 Makhna elephant had been roaming around in Devala, Padathurai, Vazhavayal areas near Gudalur in the Nilgiris district for the past four years. The Makhna elephant, which used to enter residential areas at night damaged more than 50 houses, and caused the death of two persons.

The residents of the area staged a protest demanding the capture of the PM2 Magna elephant, following which, the problematic elephant was captured and relocated in to Sigur area of Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.

When the Makhna reentered the Gudalur area recently, the Tamil Nadu Forest department, with the help of Kumki elephants, chased it into the forests of Kerala. But, the PM2 Makhna elephant entered the Muthanga forest and entered Sultan Bathery town in Wayanad district and attacked a pedestrian.



Following this, the Kerala forest department ordered the capture of the PM2 Makhna elephant which started rampaging in neighbourhoods. The Makhna was captured with a tranquillizer shot and the Kerala government has decided to take care of the elephant by sending it to an observation camp in Muthanga.



The people of the state have been praising the Kerala government and the forest department for taking steps to capture the PM2 Makhna elephant.
