Locals petition for restoration of encroached Govt. land worth Rs. 1.5 crore near Palladam

A petition has been submitted to the public, Tahsildar and Block Development Officer seeking restoration of Government-owned burial ground and pond land at Kodangipalayam near Palladam from a private company that had encroached the land.

Tirupur: Sangothipalayam village which comes under the Kodangipalayam Panchayat near Palladam in Tirupur district is home to over 200 families. The burial ground and pond land are located on the road from Sangothipalayam area to Trichy National Highway.

The Government had renovated the pond and constructed a small check dam so that the water gets accumulated in the pond during the rainy season.

In the meantime, a private compnay known as Harvest Pump is said to be under construction and hence have closed the burial ground and pond land by filling sand over the land to make a pathway for the construction work.

There have also been allegations of trees near the pond area being removed and also of damaging the check dam.

Hence, locals in the area submitted a petition to the Palladam Block Development Officer, Palladam Tahsildar and other Government officials with regard to the encroachment. In their plea, they alleged that a private company had encroached upon the Government land worth Rs 1.5 crore and demanded that it be restored. The residents of the area also warned that they would resort to various protests if the land is not restored.
