Duo including a policeman arrested for extortion near Singanallur

Sulur police station constable Murugan and his friend Pradeesh have been arrested for threatening a trader near Singanallur and robbing him of five TVs, a gas stove and Rs 47,000 in cash.


Coimbatore: Tasim (26), a resident of Kamban Nagar in Masakalipalayam and he is engaged in selling TVs and gas stoves.

When he was selling a TV with his friend Sharukh in Sulur's Kannampalayam area. constable Murugan and his friend Pradeesh approached them in the guise of buying a TV.

Sulur police station constable Murugan, who came to the scene suddenly threatened Tasmin and took away his friend Sharukh after tying his hands.

Sharukh was taken away to in Masakalipalayam area in a car after which the duo took away. five TVs, a gas stove and Rs 47,000 in cash from Tasim.

Following this, Tasim has lodged a complaint with the Singanallur police station in connection with the incident.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and arrested Murugan and his friend Pratheesh.

The involvement of a policeman in a grave crime has raised the hackles of many denizens in the city.
