Police arrest four for raising cannabis plants, seize 300 plants near Periyanayakanpalayam

Police seized around 300 cannabis plants weighing 15.3 kg and arrested four persons for intercropping cannabis plants with vegetables in Pasumani village near Periyanayakanpalayam.



Coimbatore: Pasumani, a village near Periyanayakanpalayam is inhabited by tribals and most of the people living in the village cultivate vegetables in theiron the agricultural lands.

In the meanwhile the Coimbatore district Police have received a tip-off that ganja plants have been cultivated in the said village.



Acting on a tip-off, Periyanayakanpalayam DSP Namachivayam, Inspector Damodaran and Sub-inspector Silambarasan raided Pasumani village and found out that cannabis plants were cultivated in the village.ntercropping with vegetables.



Police arrested Chellan (60), Palaniswami (60), Rajappan (33) and Velusamy (26) on charges of cultivating the cannabis plants and seized around 300 cannabis plants weighing 15.3 kg.



Later, SP Badrinarayanan, who personally inspected the site, where the cannabis plants were cultivated, had created awareness among the tribals in Pasumani village about the ill-effects of using drugs like ganja.



He also briefed the villagers about the legal consequences of raising ganja plants.
