Pollachi MP urges Govt. to run festival special trains to Pollachi during Christmas and Pongal

Pollachi MP K. Shanmuga Sundaram has writted to Railway Board to introduce festival specail trains via Pollachi to clear the rush during Christmas, New year and Pongal festivals.


Coimbatore: Pollachi MP K. Shanmuga Sundaram has writted to Railway Board to introduce festival specail trains via Pollachi to clear the rush during Christmas, New year and Pongal festivals.

In a letter addressed to V.K. Tripathi, Chairman, Railway Board, the sitting MP has noted " In view of many representations from various Train passenger associations, public organizations, Trade Bodies and Chambers of Commerce under the Pollachi Parliamentary Constituency for the operation of festival special trains to Chennai (Egmore or Tambaram) from Coimbatore or Palakkad Junction via Pollachi. Palani, Dindigul, Tiruchirappalli, Villupuram, special trains should be introduced for the convenience of the public".

"While lot of people of my Pollachi Parliamentary constituency are employed in various manufacturing and IT Industries in Chennai.and business travellers and government employees in huge numbers travel to and from Chennai frequently" the MP noted in his letter.

"At present we have a Chennai Central- Palakkad- Chennai Central SF express service 22651/22652 via Palani, Dindigul, Salem and Katpadi which is a circuitous route and passengers are waitlisted often. It is insufficient to cater to the demand of Chennai travellers from my Pollachi Parliamentary Constituency" the MP said in his letter.

The MP has requested the Railway Board to operate Special trains from Coimbatore/ Palakkad to Chennai Egmore/ Tambaram via Pollachi, Palani, Dindigul, Tiruchirappalli, Villupuram for the upcoming Christmas, New Year and Pongal festivals in the Train on Demand category.

Shanmuga Sundaram has further noted that Southern railways should operate festival special trains from Coimbatore to Rameswaram, Thiruchendur and Tuticorin via Pollachi, Palani, Dindigul.
