'Crime cases have come down drastically in Coimbatore range, and the law and order situation is stable' - West Zone IG Sudhakar

Briefing the press after a review meeting IG Sudhakar said that on an average, there has been a 30percent drop in murder cases in all the districts in Coimbatore range this year when compared to the previous year.


Coimbatore: A review meeting was held at the Coimbatore District SP's office to review the law and order situation in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and the Nilgiris district police stations under Coimbatore police range..



Chaired by West Zone IG R. Sudhakar,the review meeting was attended by Coimbatore Range DIG Muthusamy, SPs and DSPs of Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode and The Nilgiris districts.



Speaking to reporters after the review meeting, Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Sudhakar said, Crime incidents in Coimbatore range have come down drastically this year when compared to the previoius year of 2021. "The law and order situation in Coimbatore range is stable" he said.

"A total of 142 murder cases were registered in Coimbatore range last year against 91 cases registered this year. Particulary in Erode district, there has been a 50 per cent drop in murder cases compared to the previous year" the IG noted.

"On an average, murder cases have come down by 30 per cent in all the districts in Coimbatore range, setting a good example for law and order sitatuion in any range". the IG further asid.

"On the orders of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, POCSO cases are being disposed of expeditiously and the culprits are being punished. Last year, judgments were received in 17 cases. But this year, 87 cases have been disposed of and the verdict has been obtained. A total of 308 bank accounts of ganja dealers in Coimbatore range have been frozen" IG Sudhakra noted.

Further adding he said "There are a total of 1,211 villages in Coimbatore range. Among these, 721 villages are ganja-free and it could be said that over. 60% of the total villages are ganja-free villages".

"Last year's murder for gain was 9, but this year the number has come down to 4. The number of criminal cases in Coimbatore range has also come down drastically in the current year" Sudhakar said.

"Our goal is to to reduce the rate of murder cases futher and take stringent action to prevent crimes against women and children" the IG noted.

"This year, Goondas act has been slapped in 155 cases in Coimbatore range", the IG said and added." There is no Maoist movement in the western region. and as many as 10 cases have been registered after the Project Pallikoodam and 39 children have lodged their complaints".
