CITU load workers protest pressing for a host of demands, including welfare board

The Coimbatore district Load Workers' Union (CITU) staged a demonstration pressing for a host of demands, including fixing the age limit for availing pension benefit to 55 years, and extending priority for local workers.



Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Load Workers' Union CITU staged a protest in front of the BSNL office near the district collectorate to press for host of demands including fixing the age limit for availing pension benefit to 55 years.



Demanding that the Tamil Nadu government should set up a separate welfare board for the load men, the protesting load workers demanded that tenements be alloted in units constructed under The Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board.



Steps should be taken to provide jobs to local workers on a priority basis and tripartite committees should be formed for the purpose.. The pension of 3,000 promised in the election manifesto should be paid immediately.

While the retirement age should be changed to 55 years, they demanded that the Government of Tamil Nadu should take steps to increase the unloading wages for the loaders working in TASMAC godowns. The central government should take steps to provide social security to the load workers working in the railway goods shed..



The Central Government should take steps to provide basic amenities like drinking water, bathrooms, identity cards etc. to the porters of the Railways. The district administration should take steps to negotiate a wage hike for the load workers working in the grocery market.



More than 30 people participated in the protest and raised slogans pressing for their host of demands.
