Coimbatore: National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has warned Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) against using vulnerable minor children in deplorable conditions as showpieces in their advertisements when they raise funding for their organisations

Rupali Baneerji Singh, the Member-Secretary of NCPCR in a communique to the NGOs has noted that such a practice is in vogue, and it should be discontinued forthwith.

Stating that the minor children should not be used for domestic as well as international funding purposes in all types of advertisements including on print media, news channels, websites, social media and radio broadcasts, the Commission noted that it has also come across various such advertisements and fund raising activities by prominent NGO’s and organizations.

While noting that the Commission has been in receipt of a complaint wherein the Hon’ble Member of Parliament has raised concerns to the Commission on such misrepresentation of minor children for fundraising activities, it warned that NGOs should desist from committing such acts of omission as it is a blatant violation of child rights, which is in contravention of provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015

The commission also wanted that such misrepresentation should be avoided by all NGOs in their future fundraising campaigns..
