Civil supplies dept. sleuths seize 3.6 tonnes of PDS rice near Echanari

During patrolling duty last night, the Civil supplies department sleuths found out that 3.6 tonnes of ration rice bags were stored in an godown behind the Echanari Vinayaka temple. They are on the look out for the hoarder.



Coimbatore: In a bid to curb smuggling and the illegal practice of procuring ration rice from city at a low price and selling it in Kerala for a premium, the District Civil Supplies departments sleuths carried out various measures including intensive surveillance, vehicle checking and patrolling of city suburbs.

Yesterday night, the Civil Supplies department officials have raided a place, in which rice bags were stacked in an open room behind the Echanari Vinayaka temple.

Following which, the officials seized 3.6 tonnes of ration rice from the spot, and are on the look out for the hoarder.

Further investigations are on.
