Jawahar Siruvar Mandram to conduct district-level Arts competitions at Coimbatore Music College on Dec. 17

Jawahar Siruvar Mandram, which comes under the Department of Arts and Culture, Government of Tamil Nadu has announced that district-level vocal, Bharatanatyam, folk dance and painting competitions will be held on December 17th in the premises of the Music College in the city's Malumichampatti area.


Coimbatore: Jawahar Siruvar Mandram, which comes under the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Tamil Nadu is hosting district art competitions at the premises of the Music College, at Malumichampatti in Coimbatore district, on December 17.

According to a statement issued by the district administration, the Jawahar Siruvar Mandram which functions under the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Tamil Nadu will be conducting district-level art competitions. The matches will be held on Saturday, December 17. at the Music College premises near the Malumichampatti town panchayat office on Chettipalayam division road, in Coimbatore.

Competitions will be held in vocals, Bharatanatyam, folk dance and painting categories. The competitions will be held for age groups of 5-8, 9-12 and 13-16 years. On December 17, at 10 am, there will be a vocal competition, a Bharatanatyam competition and a folk dance competition. Children who are studying Carnatic music regularly can participate in the vocal competition which are meant for music forms in Tamil. Participants will be allowed to perform for a maximum of 3 minutes in Bharatanatyam and folk dance competitions.

For the solo dance and group dance competitions, film songs are not allowed. In the folk dance competition, only traditional dances like Karagam, Kavadi and Poikkal Kuthirai should be performed. A painting competition will be held at 2 pm. The contestants will have to bring their own art stationery. The theme for the art competition will be announced at the start of the competition. Certificates will be awarded to all participants. Those who win the first prize will be sent to a state-level competition, with the Government bearing the cost.

The Tamil Nadu Jawahar Siruvar Mandram was established in Chennai in the year 1979 with the objective of imparting art training to children in the age group of 5 to 16 years, providing art education along with general education, giving them an opportunity to showcase their hidden artistic talents, conducting art competitions and guiding the children through art.

At present, there are 40 District Jawahar Siruvar Manrams, Extension Centres and Rural Centres functioning in 40 places across the State. The Tamil Nadu Jawahar Siruvar Mandram is implementing the objectives of the National Children's Council under the Department of Human Resource Development, Government of India at the State level.
