Idols stolen from Bharatanatyam school in Coimbatore's Sundarapuram area; Police investigate based on CCTV footage

Police are investigating CCTV footage of miscreants carrying the idols of Nataraja, Sivakami Amman, Nandi, Vinayaka and two lamps from the dance school.


Coimbatore: Murali (50), a resident of Sengappa Konar Street in Sundarapuram has a Bharatanatyam school in the same area for the past 20 years.

On Saturday night, after completing dance training for the students, Murali locked the Bharatanatyam school and went home. On Sunday, Murali did not go to the dance school since it was a holiday.

When Murali arrived at the dance school as usual on Monday morning, he was shocked to find that the door of the dance school had been broken. On entering the school, Murali found that the idols of Nataraja, Sivakami Amman, Nandi, Vinayaka and two lamps were missing from the dance school.

Murali immediately informed the Kuniyamuthur police about the theft since he realised that the idols and lamps were stolen by unidentified persons. Police reached the spot on receiving the complaint and collected the clues with the help of forensic experts.

Moreover, when police examined the CCTV footage installed in the area, it was revealed that two unidentified persons had taken away the idols in a bag. Based on the CCTV footage, the police are on the lookout for the miscreants involved in the theft.
