PM2 Makna tramples 58 year old woman to death, its second victim in recent days

The PM2 Makna elephant killed yet another woman Kalyani (58), a native of Puliyamparai, when she went inside forest with four others to collect fire wood. In its continued rampage, the Makna has ransacked 45 houses and also killed an elderly woman named Pappathi on November 19.

The elephant is found roaming in Devala and Puliyambarai areas near Gudalur in the Nilgiris district in the past few days.

Following this, the Tamil Nadu government ordered that the elephant be captured and released into the dense forest area of Mudumalai tiger reserve. Accordingly, the Gudalur forest department has been actively engaged in catching the elephant for the past 12 days.

However, the elephant continues to evade the team which is ready to fire its tranquilizer shot before relocating it.

For the 13th day today, the operation to monitor the elephant with a drone camera continued. It was found to be roaming at Kalkupali near Puliyambarai.

The body of a woman was found when the forest department followed the Makna. During investigation, it was revealed that Kalyani was a native of Puliyambarai area. It was also confirmed that he had died after being attacked by a wild elephant.



The police recovered his body and sent it to Gudalur government hospital for post-mortem. The incident has caused great grief in the area.
