Anti-poaching guard injured in tiger attack at Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Nilgiris

The Mudumalai forest range's anti-poaching guard Bomman was attacked by a tiger on Wednesday behind his house at Theppakadu. The tiger reportedly pounced on him from behind the bushes causing serious injuries on his head, back and left hand but Bomman managed to survive by bravely fighting back.


The Nilgiris: Bomman (33), a native of Theppakadu in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve area in Nilgiris district works as an anti-poaching guard. While answering nature's call behind his house at Theppakadu, a tiger reportedly pounced on him from behind the bushes.



Bomman reportedly suffered serious injuries on his head, back and left hand but managed to survive by bravely fighting back. On hearing the noise, neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued Bomman, and admitted him at the Gudalur Government Hospital for intensive medical treatment.

The tiger that attacked Bomman is reportedly an old tiger and has been roaming in the Theppakadu area for the past few days. The tiger attack caused panic among locals in the area who have now requested the Forest Department to capture the tiger immediately.
