Nanjarayan Bird Sanctuary will be developed as a tourist hub and knowledge centre - Minister K Ramachandran in Tirupur

Forest Minister K Ramachandran, who inspected the Nanjarayan Bird Sanctuary in Tirupur, said steps would be taken to recover the land that was sold at a lower price by the AIADMK last year near the sanctuary.

Tirupur: Nanjarayankulam in Sarkar Periyapalayam area of Tirupur district was recently declared as the 17th Bird Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu by the Tamil Nadu government.

Meanwhile, Forest Minister K Ramachandran inspected the Nanjarayan Bird Sanctuary.

During the study, the minister visited the exotic bird species in the bird sanctuary with modern tools and also distributed saplings to the farmers.

Speaking to reporters, Minister K Ramachandran said, “The Nanjarayan tank is designed to accommodate 126 species of exotic bird species. The Tamil Nadu government has declared it as the 17th sanctuary and allocated Rs 7.5 crore.

The project report is being prepared to put the Nanjarayan tank into use as a place where the entire public can visit and use it. The Nanjarayan Bird Sanctuary will be brought up not only as a bird sanctuary but also as an excellent eco-tourism hub.

Like the Botanical Garden in Ooty, it will be turned into a place where the public comes and goes for daily entertainment. A treatment plant has been set up on behalf of the Public Works Department to purify the water in the Nanjarayan tank.

However, as they are not sufficient, work is underway to develop one more treatment plant on behalf of the corporation.

Since it has been converted into a bird sanctuary, the tamil nadu government will take up the land which was sold at a lower price during the previous AIADMK regime and action will be taken to bring back the tamil nadu chief minister's attention to acquire it for the bird sanctuary.”

Tirupur South MLA Selvaraj, Corporation Mayor Dinesh Kumar and forest department officials were present on the occasion.
