Coimbatore: Kathiravan, the taxi driver had ferried Francis Xavier Selvaraj, a resident of Singanallur for the past few days who told him that he was working as a manager with The Indian Oil Corporation and would get him a contract to drive a rental car in his company if Kathiravan could pay him Rs. 2.5 lakh.

Coimbatore: Kathiravan hails from Kannammal Nagar in Kavundampalayam and works in a private company in Coimbatore as a taxi driver. Francis Xavier Selvaraj, a resident of Singanallur who had travelled in the taxi for the past few days told Kathiravan that he was working as a manager with The Indian Oil Corporation and that he would get him a contract to drive a rental car in his company if Kathiravan could pay him Rs. 2.5 lakh.

Trusting Xavier, Kathiravan handed over Rs. 1 lakh as advance to him on November 2 and Xavier reportedly made note of the advance amount on a document to show Kathiravan as receipt for taking the money.
