A lone wild elephant which had been roaming around in Thadagam area for the past one month damaged coconut trees in the area on Friday night. The Forest Department has warned the public to be careful when stepping out at night.
Coimbatore: Anaikatti's forest cover is home to many wild animals, but especially to more than 50 wild elephants in the surrounding hilly areas. The herd occasionally invades residential areas and groves in the foothills and damages crops.
A lone wild elephant has been spotted roaming in the lake area for the past month and a herd of elephants invaded groves in the surrounding areas and damaged crops.
On Thursday night at about 9 pm, a lone wild elephant that strolled into the Kathir Naickenpalayam area near Thadagam in Coimbatore damaged coconut trees in the groves there.
Locals raised a hue and cry the area, and hence the Forest Department has appealed to the public to be cautious while stepping out at night. Also, people present in the groves took a video of the elephant walking on their cell phones and posted it on social media.
