Leopard roams freely on Upatti road near Gudalur in Nilgiris causing motorists to panic

The Forest Department has cautioned motorists to travel carefully on the Uppatti road on the Gudalur to Pandalur route, owing to leopard movement.

Nilgiris: Gudalur and its surrounding areas in the Nilgiris district have a large number of tea plantations. Due to this, the movement of wildlife in the area has been on the increase. At nights, leopards roam in large numbers in the tea gardens and stray into residential areas. On the main road from Pandalur to Uppatti, a leopard was recently spotted crossing the road and disappearing into a nearby tea garden.

Tea workers are reportedly terrified after hearing that the leopard frequently moves in the tea plantations adjoining the forest area. Meanwhile, the Forest Department has cautioned motorists passing on the Gudalur-Pandalur route to drive their vehicles carefully.

Residents and motorists have requested the Forest Department to take steps to prevent wild animals from straying into residential areas.
