Forest Minister distributes Rs 4,000 to rain-affected families in Coonoor in Nilgiris district

A total of 19 houses in the Nilgiris district including four houses in Ooty, 14 houses in Coonoor and one house in Kotagiri have been partially affected due to the rains. Forest Minister K Ramachandran personally inspected the relief and consoled them.


Nilgiris: The low-pressure area of the Bay of Bengal has now strengthened into a deep depression. It is located in the southwest Bay of Bengal and northern Sri Lanka.

The deep depression is very likely to move towards Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast during the next 24 hours. After this, the depression is likely to pass through the interior districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala and move towards the Arabian Sea, the IMD said.



Forest Minister K Ramachandran inspected the damaged pavements and damaged houses in Indira Nagar area of Coonoor in the Nilgiris district.



District Collector Amrit, who was present during the inspection, offered Rs 4,000 as solatium to those whose houses were damaged.



Speaking to reporters, K Ramachandran said:

He said a goat had died in Masinagudi due to two days of rain in the Nilgiris district and rs 3,000 would be given as compensation by the government.

Similarly, four houses in Ooty, 14 houses in Coonoor and one house in Kotagiri have been partially affected.

A compensation of Rs 4,000 each will be given to the families of the victims. Trees had fallen at three places in Udhagai, one place in Kunda and one place in Coonoor, which was immediately removed on behalf of the Fire and Rescue Services department and the highways department.

Due to the rains, 13 places in the district have suffered damages to the compound wall and minor damages, he said. He said the district administration was on standby to rectify the rain damages.”
